The art of writing comes in a vast amount of forms, from the idealistic ideas of Romantics to the realistic ideas of Modernists. In the art world there are two movements that demonstrate change, which are Romanticism and Modernism. The artists that demonstrate Romanticism include Washington Irving, William Wordsworth, John Keats, and Caspar Friedrich. The artists that demonstrate Modernism include Erich Remarque, E.E. Cummings, Claude Monet, and T.S. Eliot; some represent both movements such as Robert Frost. Romanticism emphasizes verbose descriptions and form, while Modernism emphasis function and Realism, which creates contrasting ideals. Romanticism is defined as an artistic movement emphasizing, inspiration, subjectivity, and the primacy of an individual. Romantic poetry is an optimistic response to the new ideas and technology brought through the scientific world. â€Å"Ode on Melancholy† by John Keats has many elements of Romanticism such as, personification, and idealiz ation. In this poem Keats says, â€Å" She dwells with Beauty – Beauty that must die/ And Joy, whose hand is ever at his lips† (Keats 21-22). Melancholy is personified and is elevated to the subject level of this conquering entity; although these things are idealized it not always a happy subject. Romantic literature, much like poetry, is very idealistic, but also has very wordy descriptions (verbose). I don t consider myself a good writer. I recognize that my academic writing is fine for the most part, but I cannot call myself a writer at all until I can improve my creative writing-- particularly my poetry. I absolutely refuse, and paradoxically, I doubt that I will ever be truly satisfied with my creative writing skills-- particularly in my poetry. Going into this course, I had never taken a creative writing course and all of my english or language courses in high school focused if not on literature than on academic writing. Which certainly explains my skills and my identity as a writer. I was confident in my ability to write the five paragraph structured paper, research papers, lab reports, and quite a few other styles and types of†¦show more content†¦Once I had been given an open environment for discussion outside the literary in my WRD 103 and experiment, I was finally able to really expand as a writer. Starting the course with readings and taking apart arguments rhe torically has really helped my understanding of rhetoric and given me much better tools for writing rhetorically myself and thinking critically. I had thought these were tools that I had previously, but really their quality reflected the quality of the class I took previously-- mediocre. (Well maybe not critical thinking. I developed that at a young age.) We can see Miller building up the tension by first setting the scene with a commotion of nonsense which has been built by Abigail, the girl at the heart of Proctors rage. This winds Proctor up and is the fuel to his fire. When Proctor is ignored whilst trying to tell Danforth the girls are merely pretending, the commotion carrys on, making Proctors rage at the highest point possible which leads him to his breakdown and confession to the Judges of an affair with Abigail. Without warning or hesitation, proctor leaps at Abigail and, grabbing her by her hair pulls her to her feet. Because the society of Salem takes its lifestyle so seriously this shows us that Proctor is not afraid, and that this might finally prove his love for Elizabeth and prove that Abigail, to him is just a whore.
